Hayfork Wetlands Weed-Pull April 5th

It takes a lot of work to maintain local trails! Help us lop back blackberry bushes and pull them up by the roots to improve public access to this vital resource. If we have time, we’ll also be pulling Scotch broom and collecting garbage. Gloves, safety glasses, shovels, geo picks, and weed wrenches provided. Wear pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and lunch. If possible, please bring your own weed whacker, with a metal blade attached, if you have one!

Meet us at the trailhead at Forest Avenue, behind the USFS station! We hope to see you there!

OHV Public Meeting

The Watershed Research and Training Center (Watershed Center) is seeking public input on an OHV Ground Operations grant application to the CA State Parks and Recreation Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division. The state funding would be used to help implement general trail maintenance activities intended to improve off-highway riding and driving opportunities on US Forest Service Mad River Ranger District’s designated OHV routes. The project is being developed and will be implemented in partnership with the Six Rivers National Forest staff. Click the event link to access the virtual meeting information.

Prescribed Fire Tour in Weaver Basin

Using Prescribed Fire as a Management Tool in the Weaver Basin - Community Walk and Talk

When: Saturday, October 5th from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Where: Meet us at Lowden Park's Washington Street parking lot at 8:30 am.  We will consolidate vehicles, carpool to Jackass Ridge for the tour, and return to Lowden Park by 12:30 pm.

What: The Watershed Research and Training Center's fire management team will lead a tour in the Weaver Basin to explain: burn unit preparation, burn planning, prescribed fire implementation, how we determine burn objectives, past successes, and more.

Other information: There will be coffee and snacks provided. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water and additional food. This event is open to all ages. Families are welcome!

Volunteer Trail Work Day on Sisson-Callahan Trail

We are partnering with Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance to host a volunteer day on the Sisson-Callahan Trail on Saturday, September 14th. We will meet at the Parks Creek Trailhead at 9:00 AM and complete the workday by 3:00 PM. Travel time to the trailhead from Redding or Weaverville is just shy of 2 hours, so please plan accordingly. The Watershed Center can reimburse miles driven at the federal mileage rate!

Burn Planning Workshop (Private Property in Hayfork)

Hayfork and surrounding communities are invited to join a two-day Burn Planning Workshop with the WRTC Fire Team! This workshop will build upon previous workshops intended to inspire the creation of Prescribed Burn Associations in multiple communities throughout Trinity County. This Burn Planning workshop on Saturday and Sunday, July 6th and 7th, will take place on private property. Mountain bike enthusiasts from all over California flock to the Weaver Basin Trail System for the Annual LaGrange Mountain Bike Race! This year’s competition will take place on Saturday June 8th, 2024. The Long Course is 27 miles, the Intermediate Course is 17.4 miles, and the Short Course is 6 miles. Trinity County Firewise Fair

Join us on Saturday, May 11th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Hayfork Park for the 2024 Trinity County Firewise Fair!

There will be agency booths available to offer you information and resources to prepare you for this upcoming fire season, as well as FOOD vendors, live MUSIC, fire extinguisher demonstrations, and a (tentative) GOAT petting ZOO! Our local Volunteer Fire Departments will also be in attendance, raffling off fun items to raise funds.

This event is FREE, open to all, and family-friendly. We are grateful to our partners for planning and executing this event: the Trinity County Fire Safe Council (spearheaded by the Trinity County Resource Conservation District), the United State Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and CAL Fire.
